WWE Payback 2013: Predicting Every Match On The Card

This Sunday, WWE's newest event - Payback - debuts LIVE from the All State Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. There is a lot to go down this Sunday night, with a barbaric Three Stages of Hell Match and of course the highly anticipated return of CM Punk.

In this article, we predict all the matches on the card and argue our choices for each match. The two head writers for WrestleBloggers, Nisar Khan and OfficialCenafan give their take on all the booked matches for Payback...

Sheamus vs. Damien Sandow in the WWE Payback Kick-Off Show
OfficialCenafan: Not a bad build up to this match. Damien Sandow should get a push soon, and beating Sheamus would be the start of It. but I totally don't see that happening. A Brogue kick to Sandow and That's all for this feud. Pretty pointless.

Nisar Khan: It is great to see that Damien Sandow is getting a streak of wins together. A win over Sheamus would be great for him to begin a push but that does not really seem like an outcome. Sheamus will win just to kick-off the show in good spirits.

Both pick Sheamus to win.

Kaitlyn vs. AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Championship
OfficialCenafan: This match should have happened a long time ago but I'm glad It's finally happening. The promo from AJ on Raw was fantastic, First time in a long time a Diva cut a promo that was longer than 2 minutes since I think Laycool times. AJ is bound to win the Divas Champion so I think She will beat Kaitlyn.

Nisar Khan: AJ's promo on RAW was a significant moment in her career thus far, and her winning on Sunday would just epitomize this. I think AJ Lee will finally capture the Diva's title, but I think this should have happened back at WrestleMania when she returned to her home town. AJ Lee will win.

Both pick AJ Lee to win

Dean Ambrose vs. Kane for the United States Championship
OfficialCenafan: Another unexpected match up added on the card this Monday. We've seen Shield vs Hell No many times, so I think this match feels fresh. Kane obviously doesn't need the title, so I'm going for Ambrose.

Nisar Khan: This match is something of which I see is just to keep Ambrose and Kane booked on a card. I expect a decent match between the two but Dean Ambrose will win, and a win over a very experienced guy like Kane will add some serious credibility to his title reign. Predicting Ambrose to win this one.

Both pick Dean Ambrose to win

Wade Barrett vs. The Miz vs. Curtis Axel for the Intercontinental Championship
OfficialCenafan: Fandango was originally suppose to be in this match but a concussion has caused him to be out of the match. Miz won the Intercontinental title at WM and lost It the next day to Barrett. The Intercontinental Champion has been a curse to Barrett as He has been getting buried. I'm expecting Axel to win It and bring some prestige to Intercontinental Champion. PERFECT.

Nisar Khan: I think much interest has been lost in the Intercontinental title saga between Barrett and Miz. With Axel now filling in for Fandango, this feels fresh again. I think Curtis Axel will win, because an title early under his new name will be a good start to his career.

Both pick Curtis Axel to win

Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton & Daniel Bryan for the WWE Tag Team Championships
OfficialCenafan: I wanted to see Bryan vs Orton at Payback but I guess WWE Changed their plans. I think Daniel Bryan turns heel here and costs Orton the match. As much as we hope for a Orton heel turn, we'll have to wait longer. They threw this match randomly which is why It's not going to be much Interesting. Predicting Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to retain and continue their title reign.

Nisar Khan: I did not expect this match to be booked but The Shield needed to be on pay-per-view. This match should just add to building The Shield as a dominant force, and I suppose that some rivalry will come out of this between Bryan and Orton after communications break down. The Shield will retain at Payback.

Both pick Reigns and Rollins to win

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho
OfficialCenafan: This match was set 3 weeks ago in the Highlight Reel segment between Heyman and Jericho. It was totally unexpected as I expected Punk's return to be held off for few more months. I was expecting Axel to replace Punk at Payback but now I don't think so since He has his own match. I think what makes this special is that nobody knows what's going to happen, Unpredictability is great. I'm not sure If this match would happen or not but If It does I'm expecting CM Punk to win.

Nisar Khan: I am still unsure whether or not CM Punk will turn up on Sunday, but if so, I will be among many wrestling fans overjoyed after his return. The company may need Punk, but may be needing him a bit too early. If he does turn up he will beat Jericho, but I am expecting this match to steal the show. Punk wins... if he shows up.
Both pick Punk to win

Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship
OfficialCenafan: This match barely has had any build whatsoever and It was because of Dolph Ziggler's Injury. We have seen Big E Langston vs Del Rio 5 times in 3 weeks.  Ziggler returned on Raw this Monday and It was suddenly announced that He will face Del Rio at Payback. With not a lot of build, I'm expecting Ziggler to retain.

Nisar Khan: We have seen this match many-a-time in the past and Del Rio has been the victor in the majority. However, with this match severely damaged in terms of buildup due to the unforeseen circumstances of Ziggler's concussion, interest may be low. On that point, expect Ziggler to retain.

Both pick Ziggler to win

John Cena vs. Ryback in a Three Stages of Hell match for the WWE Championship
OfficialCenafan: Ryback turned heel on the day after WM29 and Ever since then He has had some good matches with horrendous mic skills. I do think He is improving but just not WWE Champion material. Cena vs Ryback at Extreme Rules was a enjoyable match, Well at least to me. The feud have been kind of boring, but I'm hoping It ends at Payback. I hope the 3 Stages of Hell stipulation adds some Interest in the match even though the stipulations are weak. I think Cena wins Lumberjack, Ambulance and Ryback just wins the tables one - Cena doesn't get pinned.

Nisar Khan: Ryback and John Cena may pull off a good match on Sunday. It won't be a clean sweep though, I am expecting John Cena to win the Lumberjack, Ryback to win the Tables then Cena to triumph in the Ambulance Match. Could be some shocking moments in this match, I would like to see a return but I think Ryback will be finished off on Sunday - Cena wins.

Both pick Cena to win

Predictions Summary
OfficialCenafan: Sheamus, AJ Lee, Curtis Axel, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena
Nisar Khan: Sheamus, AJ Lee, Curtis Axel, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena

WWE Payback debuts this Sunday. A card with a lot of potential, including the in-ring return of two great talents in CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler. WWE Main Event: 12th June 2013 (Episode 37): Results, Coverage, Analysis and more!

The featured match of this week's edition of Main Event saw The Miz take on Cody Rhodes. On RAW, we saw the two battle off in a contest which Miz won via the Figure Four Leg Lock (Learn More >>). Cody Rhodes was looking for some retribution after suffering the loss on Monday night.

Wade Barrett looked on in commentary as he watched The Miz defeat Cody Rhodes. It was a very solid match to be featured on Main Event, and while many may have questioned the decision to rematch the two from RAW, the action in the ring was solid. Cody Rhodes continued to prove why he is a great talent, and made The Miz pull a lot out of the bag to score the victory. But the final outcome remained, Cody Rhodes had no response to the Figure-Four Leg Lock, and the only option he had was to tap out.
The Miz with a strong and well-fought victory over Cody Rhodes, and Wade Barrett would have been watching ringside, could The Miz be taking his Gold on Sunday?

Damien Sandow addressed the crowd in Greensboro, North Carolina and yet again had many bad things to say about the WWE Universe present. Sin Cara entered the ring and engaged in one-on-one competition, but the match ended quickly with Sandow defeating Sin Cara in emphatic fashion. Sin Cara now has back-to-back losses coming off RAW and now Main Event, meanwhile Damien Sandow wants to Kick-Off Payback appropriately by beating Sheamus in the online WWE Payback Kick-Off show.

The Usos continued their impressive run of tag-team form with a victory over Brodus Clay and Tensai, Tons of Funk. The Usos were consistent in paying homage to their great wrestling lineage, and a new cutting edge to The Usos is indeed working. A victory over Tons of Funk has The Usos placed further up the tag team division, could they be closing in on a shot at the titles?

Three matches that have some significance this week on Main Event. The Miz looks ready to go for WWE Payback, and the same can be said for Damien Sandow who is prepared to Kick-Off WWE Payback with Sheamus, plus the Uso brothers got another win under their belt.

WWE Monday Night RAW - 10th June 2013 (Episode 1046): Coverage, Blog, Results and more!

With just six days until WWE Payback, the final RAW, LIVE from Richmond, VA had a lot to live up to, as it would offer the epitome of many matches going into WWE Payback. Several new matches were booked in a very good edition of RAW...

Triple H was to defy the orders of Vince McMahon, as he entered the ring to compete with Curtis Axel. The match was short-lived though, as just moments into the match, the Chairman of the Board Mr McMahon made an entrance. He walked up to the timekeepers area, and declared that Curtis Axel had won via Disqualification, before leaving. But Triple H was having none of it, and he ordered the timekeeper to restart the match. Following some short action between Axel and The Game, Mr McMahon again then proceeded to the timekeeper's area and this time made a declaration that Triple H had lost via forfeit. Moments after McMahon again left, Triple H orders that it would be a 60 minute Iron-Man match. Alas in vein, as Mr McMahon took away the ring bell and microphone before leaving the arena, and leaving Triple H irate and embarrassed.
Many fans would have preferred more action between Axel and Triple H, the changes between Triple H and Vince McMahon coming out may have been quite a long-winded segment, but still created a genuine deal of animosity between the two. What no one liked at all from this segment was that it was replayed a ridiculous amount of times during the night.
How would Triple H respond after being embarrassed by Vince McMahon?

The Big Red Monster Kane had a lot of fury to unleash as he faced The Shield's Dean Ambrose. Kane was quick to inflict damage on the United States Champion, in a type of match that was scrappy with the clash of styles between Ambrose's cunning in-ring game and Kane's brute force. Kane was attempting to finish Ambrose with a Chokeslam, but just moments before he was to solidify a victory, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins interfered and launched an attack on Kane. Mere moments into the attack, Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton came as backup, and cleared house by throwing all The Shield members out of the ring. The WWE Universe would later find out in the night that Kane would meet Ambrose once again - at WWE Payback for the United States Championship.
Neither Kane or Ambrose were booked in a position that could be serious for their momentum, as losing by disqualification can be accepted. Hopefully this match will have more organization, but it was good to watch.
Will Kane become the New United States Champion on Sunday?
The Miz prepared for WWE Payback as he faced Cody Rhodes in singles competition. Wade Barrett - who will defend his Intercontinental Title at the upcoming PPV - was at ringside as he scouted his opponent. The Miz scored a submission victory over Rhodes with the Figure-Four Leg Lock. Following the victory, Miz and Barrett engaged in some verbal warfare, before the pair were interrupted by Paul Heyman. Heyman announced that his client, Curtis Axel, would replace Fandango (of who suffered a concussion - Learn More at WWE.com) in the Triple Threat on Sunday.
Cody Rhodes is seemingly becoming more involved in a lot of TV action which is great to see with a good talent. Many fans would not have been delighted that we would see Miz vs. Barrett again, but the match now has a cutting edge with Curtis Axel involved.
Can Curtis Axel dethrone Wade Barrett and overcome The Miz in his first title match?

With just six days until he faces CM Punk in Chicago, Chris Jericho addressed the crowd in Richmond with some choice words for The Straight Edge Saviour. Jericho said that it was a must-win for him, as he had lost to Punk at WrestleMania and Extreme Rules last year. He was interrupted by the returning World Heavyweight Champion, Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler confronted Jericho and things quickly got heated. Dolph Ziggler got his associate Big E Langston to do the job, and he walked towards the ring to face Chris Jericho.
Big E Langston was showing good strengths against the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla but Jericho had plenty of shots to give back of his own. Big E was able to utilize his power to good effect for the time being but as Jericho got back into firm control, Dolph Ziggler attempted to give Big E an edge... to no avail as Alberto Del Rio arrived and put up a stand against Ziggler. Big E was occupied elsewhere and turned into a Codebreaker, with Jericho picking up a victory, and some important momentum heading into Payback.
Big E Langston's character is developing very well especially being put in there with a veteran like Jericho. This segment may have threw up a bit of buzz about the bout on Sunday, with Del Rio getting one-up on Ziggler. Jericho looks strong going into Sunday.
Will Dolph Ziggler's grand return be short lived when he faces Del Rio at Payback?

Antonio Cesaro defeated Sin Cara, with a good display by catching Sin Cara mid-air with a thunderous uppercut and a Neutralizer. Zeb Colter ringside analyzed the action with his views about immigration imminent.
Another win under Cesaro's belt is great to see. Here's hoping it's one of many.
What will Cesaro pursue next?

It was up to the WWE Universe to book the next matches, as they could vote Daniel Bryan's opponent - Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins. This would be an interesting preview ahead of the Tag Team Championship match on Sunday, when Rollins and Reigns defend against Bryan and Randy Orton. Seth Rollins was voted as Bryan's opponent, and they were to put on a spectacular match.  Before that however, Reigns and Orton battled in singles competition. The match was a very cerebral based competition, as both traded heavy blows. As Orton prepared for an RKO, Seth Rollins interrupted, and this triggered Daniel Bryan's interference - ultimately resulting in a No Contest.
Then, there were fireworks. Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins. A match of sound technical ability, speed, and an old-school fashion wrestling match. Bryan had Rollins tangled up in some superb holds, meanwhile Rollins' lethal strikes played a factor too. Roman Reigns was fingertips away from giving Rollins the edge, but Orton was quick to strike and deal with the issue allowing Bryan to roll up Rollins for the win.
Excellent build up for the Payback match that has many of the WWE Universe abuzz. Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins' bout was indeed an instant classic, both men stole the show on the best match of the night. Randy Orton allowed Roman Reigns to show he is dominant whilst The Viper also showed he is a force to be reckoned with. It is going to be an exciting match at Payback.
Will Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan capture the Gold?

For weeks, Kaitlyn had received numerous messages from a 'Secret Admirer'. This week the secret admirer would reveal themselves. The WWE Universe may have been shocked when Big E Langston arrived, who gave Kaitlyn the impression of the truth before shocking her with AJ arriving. AJ skipped down to the ring and had some very interesting words for Kaitlyn, words of which have definitely hyped up the Divas Championship match on Sunday. The promo had the anticipation for this match on the rise, before a brawl epitomized this.
Can AJ capture her first Championship in WWE?

Damien Sandow prepared for his match at the Payback kick-off show when he defeated R-Truth. The Truth was not to have the final say at this time with a promising performance from Sandow sending a message to Sheamus. His celebrations were however hindered when Sheamus interrupted and told Sandow of what is to come on Sunday.
Sandow showed a great level of ability in the contest. Sheamus vs Sandow has some good build up, especially when it is a pre-show match.
Will The Enlightened One school The Celtic Warrior at Payback?

Concluding the show was the big confrontation between Ryback and John Cena - of who will collide for the WWE Championship in a Three Stages of Hell Match at Payback. In an attempt to avoid any physical conflict between the two, all the Lumberjacks were to surround the ring, with John Cena in, and Ryback out of it. Things rapidly escalated towards the match, and both men showed how prepared they were for hell at Payback, and then Payback should be a b***ch. Then, hell in fact broke loose. Ryback and John Cena went after each other and brawled, but eventually the Lumberjacks maintained the control and separated them. It is going to be explosive at Payback this Sunday.
Deep promo between Ryback and Cena puts a lot of seriousness regarding this match, and the chaos that ensued is a great preview for what is to come Sunday.
Who will prevail from hell this Sunday and become the WWE Champion?

WWE Payback is just around the corner. Many of the rivalries epitomized on RAW, with some interesting moments. As we roll on towards Payback, many after-effects are lurking. Triple H may have been embarrassed on RAW, but are things with the McMahons really settled? The best match of the night, without a doubt goes to Daniel Bryan vs. Seth Rollins - an instant classic.

This Sunday, who will seek vengeance? Will we crown Champions?
